A conference was held in Zagreb on 3 March 2025, focusing on the project “Paperless commercial courts in Croatia.” The event aimed to exchange best practices regarding digitalisation and paperless workflows in commercial courts, alongside discussions on European treaties concerning Artificial Intelligence.
Key participants included Croatian Minister of Justice Damir Habijan, judges from various Croatian courts, and representatives from the Ministry of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation, as well as the Council of Europe. The conference also attracted members from the IT and business sectors, the Croatian Bar Association, and associations involved in court proceedings.
International perspectives were shared, with Konstantinos Koussoulis discussing the integration of digital tools in the Greek judiciary and the potential for AI use. Irina Orssich provided insights into the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, while Anamarija Mladinić presented on the Council of Europe Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence.
Since its inception in September 2024, the project has adopted a three-pronged approach to evaluate the legislative, IT, and business dimensions pertinent to commercial courts, which are at the forefront of innovation and transitioning to fully paperless operations. The initiative is co-funded by the European Union through the Technical Support Instrument and is implemented by the Council of Europe in collaboration with the European Commission.
